8 and 4 !!!

4: what phase of character designing is your favorite? least favorite?

my favorite has to be the initial phases of gathering inspiration. all the possibilities are so interesting to look at- and it's a shame to narrow them down. aaand... my least favorite is narrowing down all my options to just a handful, i hate discarding ideas that i'd grown attached to! i'm also not a huge fan of sitting down and making references, although I've streamlined my process there a bit.

8: which of your currently active characters is the oldest? how old are they?

oooh okay! my actual currently oldest is sadie... she's from 2013-2014 or so, making her 7-8 years old! she's not exactly active currently, since the RP she's in right now is a bit dead. my second oldest currently active is antoine/atheza, whose first concepts were from 2016 or 2017. they later went through so many changes that i split them into two separate characters, so both are linked.

11: What do you do when an character doesn't have as much of a "spark" as you'd hoped, or otherwise doesn't click with you very well?

12: Where do you get inspiration for new characters?

11: what do you do when an character doesn't have as much of a "spark" as you'd hoped, or otherwise doesn't click with you very well?

it depends. as i said in another response, most of my characters are for RPs, not structured novels or anything like that. sometimes i'll just relegate them to a side role, sometimes i'll have them get killed off, sometimes i'll try and get them more interesting relationships with other characters to explore so i can latch on more. other times, i just need to keep playing them until they develop more personality! i've had some characters i've shelved for not doing much for me, but then i'll come back to them after a few months and suddenly i really enjoy playing them!

12: where do you get inspiration for new characters?

got this one in another ask too but i'll try and talk some more about it! another character that i'm working on currently is an aasimar inspired by the ghostly images of the elephant's foot, and the static-y quality of photos taken around highly radioactive places. when designing jaxi, i wanted a feathered dragonborn (sorta inspired by feathered dinosaurs) and looked at some real-world birds to steal coloration from- first peacock morphs, but i ended up w/ a nicobar pigeon! normally i just have to sit around until media, music, art, or some real-world thing strikes my fancy, and then go!

kvistwig asked:

2 & 12 for tha OC design auestions? ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

2: how do you start designing a new character?

almost all of my characters are for RPs, so i start with what world they're in and who the other characters are! what holes need to be filled, who could use an interesting foil, what themes multiple characters have in common, et cetera! other times, if there's no characters to go off of yet, i'll figure out a concept i like. for eris, as an example, that was basically "strong warrior that wears heavy, holy-looking armor, but isn't holy or good in the slightest"

12: where do you get inspiration for new characters?

lots from media i like and artists that inspire me. antoine and atheza drew a lot from my favorite classical music. eris got a lot from drakengard plus from some killer armor concepts i saw from one of my favorite artists. a few other times, i'm just inspired by things in real life or by stuff like d&d race and class descriptions. a character i'm currently working on was inspired by the song "hey little songbird" from hadestown, the rite of spring, + the new reborn backstory for d&d 5e: "Your body hosts a possessing spirit that shares its memories and replaces your missing appendages with phantasmal limbs."

oc design questions

so i've seen (and created!) some questions about OCs themselves... so here's something different! these are about various aspects of OP design and development, from the perspective of a creator.

  1. what do you use your characters for- art? writing? roleplay? some combination of those?
  2. how do you start designing a new character?
  3. what's your overall design philosophy for characters- do you put personality above all else, or physical appearance, or their role in the story, or something else? how does this affect the design/development process?
  4. what phase of character designing is your favorite? least favorite?
  5. which characters are your favorites, overall? why?
  6. which characters have your favorite designs? why?
  7. which of your characters has gone through the most changes, and what were those changes?
  8. which of your currently active characters is the oldest? how old are they?
  9. do your characters tend to have any recurring themes? is this deliberate, or does it just happen?
  10. do your characters tend to have certain personality traits in common? is this deliberate?
  11. what do you do when an character doesn't have as much of a "spark" as you'd hoped, or otherwise doesn't click with you very well?
  12. where do you get inspiration for new characters?

A,G,O (for the ask game)

A: Do you answer texts quickly?

i either answer super quickly or not at all tbh- i've got a nasty habit of just not responding to shit. i get nervous or distracted or just don't know what to say oops

G: What are some video games you have played?

my all-time favorite is the nier franchise (i've only played automata, since i don't have the systems for the other games, but i've absorbed all the drakengard and nier replicant lore i can, and i'm so hype for the nier replicant remake!!) aside from that, in no particular order, some more favorites: minecraft, don't starve, hades, journey, limbo, and inside!

and sorry, but i'm not going to answer O- i've got enough of my own mental health battles that i'm not sure any of my advice would actually be helpful or if i'd just be transmitting my own bad coping mechanisms ^^;

(for Social Inclusion)

1: How easy is it to earn their trust?

2: How easy is it to lose their trust?

very easy to earn! if you're nice to them, they'll trust you pretty quickly. and it's difficult to lose, since they're a bit of a pushover and they tend to assume the best. once you've lost it, though, you've lost it for... just about forever

20: what are some of their regrets, if any? would they go back in time to fix any of them, if given the chance? For Eris

eris doesn't spend too much time dwelling on the past, really. they think it's a pointless pursuit, when there's plenty of stuff to get done in the present. they definitely wouldn't go out of their way to change anything, but if the chance arose anyway, there's some people they'd go back and hug again

11.) what qualities do they like in other people? For Social Inclusion.

they like when people are patient, quiet, and understanding of space. honestly, though, they're not that picky about whose company they keep- they're happy enough to hang around anyone that's not terrified of the 8' tall robot with bones built in. as long as someone isn't rude to them, they're glad for the companionship!

12 and 13?

12 - Favourite genre of music?

probablyyyyy classical honestly! that, indie, and folk

13 - Do you like any obscure genres of music?

the classical music i like is all in more Obscure subsets of classical music. i love lots of 20th century stuff (especially from eastern european composers!). it's not exactly Obscure, i don't think, but it's also not what comes to people's heads when i say "i like classical music". also, minimalist classical music is great (steve reich, philip glass, and john adams are some notable composers here- it's one of the major genres of classical music still being written today but it's really not that well known!)
